The unbreakable bond between stars and gossip is ages old. You need not be an established name in the industry, as long as you are a part of it trust the grapevine to target you. Then how different could Adhyayan’s fate be. Shekhar Suman’s son has been caught up in rumours right from day one of his debut film’s release. What’s worse, the film, titled Haal-E-Dil, didn’t even get the desired response at the box-office.
Of late, the hot topic is his growing proximity with Kangana Ranaut. Not surprisingly, he is denying all these rumours as mere allegations. He says, “You know how it works here. I’m doing Raaz 2 with Kangana as my co-star. We are good friends and the moment you say ‘good friends’ you get linked.” If she’s no more than a co-star, then why was she the only one from the Raaz 2 team present at his premiere? He rues, “I’d called the entire team, but only Kangana could make it.”
Interestingly, Adhyayan’s ‘good friend’ Kangana referred to him as her brother in an interview. The newcomer is quick to laugh it off and says, “Even I asked her why she called me her brother, but I was just pulling her leg. Perhaps the reporter mistook her quote. She didn’t mean anything else but that we are good friends.” Of course, he should know what her statements actually indicate.
Whatever be the name they give to their relationship, there seems more to it than shows on the surface. Aditya Pancholi, Kangana’s ex-lover, was also present at Haal-E-Dil’s premiere. Apparently, the day after the event, Aditya sent threatening messages to Adhyayan and Kangana. However, Adhyayan says that there is absolutely no truth to it. He says, “Aditya won’t do that. He has worked with my father before and they share a cordial relationship with each other.”
Now that we have Adhyayan clarifying about the alleged rumours, lets get it from the horse’s mouth if the news of his father being upset with producer Kumar Mangat is also just another gossip. For a change, Adhyayan admits about the relationship gone sour. He says, “When the story was narrated to me, I thought the character would be there for at least 30-40 % of the film. But, when we saw the film, it seemed very incomplete to me as an actor. My father was told that I have a good screen time and a fantastic role. Obviously, he was not too happy with the way it turned out.” Phew, just a film old and Adhyayan has already learnt to deal with the grapevine. Now, if he could learn to deal with some good directors and producers in the future.
Sony Entertainment Television has re-launched SAB as a 24-hour comedy channel. The existing non-comedy contents will be replaced by variety of humorous shows, including popular American series “Home Improvement” and “My Wife and Kids”.
The launch of the channel with a new format Thursday was also marked by a new daily family comedy “Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Iss Ghar Ki”.
“We will stick to comedy, offering various flavours throughout the day. We will hopefully be the only 24-hour comedy channel in India in the midst of so many soap channels,” Anooj Kapoor, senior Vice President SAB, told IANS.
” ‘Lo Ho Gayi…’ is the first step towards clothing SAB with a 24-hour pure family entertainment channel. All other comedies before were episodic, this is the first daily comedy with a definite progressive story line that can be a replacement for the daily family soaps,” added Kapoor.
Known for its comedy genre, SAB was turned into a general entertainment channel, after its take over from Adhikari Brothers in 2004. In 2006, it was revamped again and presented as a youth channel with shows like “Jersey No. 10″, “Left Right Left”, “Mohalla Mohabbatwala”, “4″, “Love Story” and so on.
Now SAB is back to its original format. Kapoor informed that the channel has acquired the rights of various comedy shows from the US, including “Home Improvement”, “My Wife and Kids”, besides the exclusive India rights of “Laurel Hardy” and “Charlie Chaplin”.
Kapoor says that “Lo Ho Gayi…” will provide an alternative to women folk who are hooked to saas-bhau sagas.
“I got feedback from people that though the present persecution of daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law in serials got a huge popularity, they are destroying the fabric of a joint family.
“So, I believe its time to divert the attention of our women folk to something which is not injurious to structure of a family. I strongly believe that ‘Lo Ho Gayi…’ can provide entertainment to the women soap watchers as well as their male counterpart,” said Kapoor.
“What Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Sooraj Barjatya tried in their films, we are trying it in television,” Kapoor added.
“Lo Ho Gayi…” will have Sana Saeed, who played Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Anjali in the blockbuster “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, as the protagonist with veteran actors like Rohini Hattangadi and Mushtaq Khan playing important characters. Produced by Cinevista, “Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Iss Ghar Ki” will be aired Monday to Thursday from June 30.
“Besides planning for reality shows, game shows, musical shows that will be humorous in nature, the channel will also be show one Hindi and English (dubbed in Hindi) comedy movies on prime time slots on Saturday and Sunday,” said Kapoor.
Among all the debutant star sons and daughters, one young gentle man comes quietly to the industry, without any hype or rampant promotion. He prefers to let his work speak for him. Of course, he has got acting in his blood; he is the son of Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil, one of the greatest actresses of Hindi film industry. Prateik Babbar makes his debut with Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, a romantic comedy. Prateik neither plays the lead in the film nor does the film revolve around him.
Prateik plays the character of Amit Wadia, Genelia’s brother who always teases her through out the film. This character also had a troubled childhood which results in making him arrogant and laidback. Being an introvert, he doesn’t talk to many people lives in his world of painting and has a pet mouse.
Prateik didn’t get the role because of his connections but he was working with Prahlad Kakkar when he gave the screen test of this film and he was offered the role. He also plans to join a film school but after completing this film. He doesn’t mind to be a part of Imraan’s big launch and wishes him all the best like a true Samaritan. Prateik acknowledges that Abbas is a great director.
Even Aamir complimented Prateik’s work in the film, it obviously made the young lad happy, and after all, Aamir Khan doesn’t compliment everyone. Prateik did learn acting at Mr. Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International. He considers to Mr. Kishore Namit Kapoor be his motivation. Prateik’s mother Smita Patil died when he was very young and he spent his life with his grand parents and he wanted to be a cricketer as a child and was quite good at it also. He thinks if he had continued playing cricket, he would have become a pace-bowler like Irfan Pathan. He considers his relation with Raj Babbar is like any normal father and son Arya Babbar takes Prateik for his buddy. Prateik in turn calls Arya to be his advisor and he is Arya’s support system.
Prateik loves his mother’s films like Chakra, Mirch Masala and Shakti. He considers Nandita Das to be equivalent to Smita Patil but he thinks she needs to get the right roles. Among the handsone hunks of Bollywood, he likes Arjun Rampal and thinks he has taken the right decision to play the rock star in Rock On. Prateik is a sporty person and loves outdoor games like football, cricket etc. and loves to work out in a gym.
Given a chance, he would like to replace Vivek in Company and Shootout At Lokhandwala. He would also like to do a Kaante. He is also doing a theatre with his mother and sister’s Ekjute Theatre Group.
Priyadarshan seems to be one gutsy fellow. Even after serving a flop film like Mere Baap Pehle Aap the director has already announced his next comedy flick titled Jaise Ko Taise. In this film Priyan would be bringing together his favourite team of Hera Pheri. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal would once again be teamed up together in a hope to create the same kind of magic as they have done in Hera Pheri and its sequal.
But Priyan has made it clear that the film isn’t going to be an extension of Hera Pheri series, instead it’s going to have a fresh script altogether. Along with the trio stars one would also get to see many laughter challenge contestants like Raju Shrivastav, Sunil Pal and Rauf Lala in the flick. It seems Priyan is here to make out and out comedy only and no emotional bondage for extra massala.
We wish this film brings a smile back on the faces of both Priyan and the audiences; and not to forget, the bechara producer. -(SAMPURN)
Harman Baweja is turning out to be indeed different from the rest of his ilk who love making tall claims about their films for weeks before they hit the theaters. He would rather want audience to look at the way his Love Story 2050 has turned out to be and though he knows that nothing to a scale like this has ever been attempted before in India, it would be fool hardly to expect it coming close to what Hollywood has accomplished in the decades gone by.
“There is no point stating that this is going to be the film which would give Hollywood run for it’s money”, says Harman who has been literally slogging 24X7 to keep the momentum on for the promotion of his film, “Seriously, it is impossible to match the kind of standards that our counterparts from the West have set. It all boils down to the budget at the end of the day and with the kind of resources we work with, even though we may hire the best team out there, you can’t expect results on the same lines.”
But isn’t the budget of Love Story 2050 set around Rs. 50 crores? Isn’t it good enough to set a solid enough platform for his futuristic/sci-fi film?
Agrees Harman, “It is indeed good budget but then we are talking about a film which is primarily a special effects film. Every shot out there requires to be painstakingly shot and then mastered in the editing room. It is an extensive process and requires lot of time, hard work and money. Yes, we have spent a great amount of money into the project.”
“In fact during the making of the film in the last couple of years,” adds Harman, “the talks used to be centered on budget, budget and more budget. We would get over one obstacle, move on to the next and happily come out unscathed yet again. But still, it was a constant battle.”
Reasons Harman, “There is no point trying to set Hollywood as a benchmark though. Look at Tom Cruise. Just his remuneration costs around 10 million dollars and we are not even talking about the overall production cost of the film. Now compare it for yourself with the budget that we have on our hands for making a film. Yes, we have created the best that Bollywood has ever seen in a special effects film but we surely have some way to go before we can tell the world that we have arrived.”
The honesty in Harman reveals the facts behind the fiction but the audience will surely wait to witness the fiction with best ever effects in Bollywood and that’s packaged with a sugary coat of love between off-screen pair Priyanka and Harman. The film “Via Darjeeling” says that the people who gossip about a situation and make stories related to any suspicious event, are biased by their own life experiences in making assumptions about a incidents. The film also tries to depict the so called “Addas” culture that was mostly the coffee shops of Kolkatta where friends gathered and gossiped about an incident for hours. Performance of the actors in the film is fine but the audience feels that the end lacked a final note that makes the whole three hour drama fake.
In the famous Bengali “addas” culture the people groups made assumptions for every incident in the city and many times they discussed in a way to distort reality behind an incident. Music of the film is situational and entertaining. The story is similar to Japanese tale Rashomon in which a murder mystery is perceived in four different ways by four individuals.
The story of the film is about Ankur and Rimli, who are honeymooning in Darjeeling. When the couple plans to return back from the place, the husband goes missing and the police man Robin Bose is enquiring about the situation. He is informed by the wife that her husband fought with a taxi driver and a mysterious man was following the couple.
Two years after the incident, the police man talks about the case in front of his group of friends and his friends try to give an outcome to the story.
Rono is a journalist and he says that the mysterious man must be Rimli’s old lover called Bonny and Ankur must have been kidnapped by the taxi driver.
Priti, Rono’s wife speaks in favor of the girl and she says that Rimli must have been pregnant with Bonny’s child and when Ankur comes to knows, he leaves her.
Kaushik , an aspiring filmmaker who’s recently came back from NY , has a filmy kind of story ,he says Bonny (the unidentified man following the couple) must be a contract killer hired by the husband to kill Rimli because Rimli was lone heir to the ancestral property.
Mallika a successful television actress has her own version to the story.
The director doesn’t comes up with a story that ends the suspense and he makes the audience to keep assuming stories .The story starts with a lots of expectation but ends nowhere and that makes the film weak .The cinematography of he film is average. Music matches the script.
Sonial Kulkarni, Kay Kay Menon and Parvin Dabbas perform as per the presumptions in the four stories. Vinay Pathak is brilliant in flashback and current stories. Sandhya Mridul impresses and Rajat Kapoor, Simone Singh and Prashant Narayanan are brilliant in their roles.
The film may be confusing for its concluding part but the performance of actors and the suspense script magnetizes audience. The film will not be a grosser at box –office but will get average collections.
